It is our privilege to welcome you to the 21st Annual EAERE Conference, to be held in Helsinki, Finland on June 24–27, 2015. The conference is organized by the University of Helsinki.
The economic foundation of Finland is a story of sustainable renewable resource use: approximately 60% of the total Finnish land area consists of forests, owned by 700 000 forest owners. The forest sector contributes to 4% of the GDP and 20% of the exports. Both the total growing stock and cuttings have increased over the past 50 years and approximately 12% of the Finnish land area is protected. Finland is referred to as “the land of a thousand lakes”, but actually their number exceeds 185 000 and the waters are close to pristine condition. International cooperation for the protection of the Baltic Sea is given high priority.
The University of Helsinki with its 375-year history has been ranked among the best multidisciplinary research universities in the world. The University is an international academic community of 40,000 students and staff members. It operates on four campuses in Helsinki and at 17 other locations.
The City Centre Campus, extending around the historical centre of Helsinki, the Senate Square and Kruununhaka city district, is the administrative heart of the University of Helsinki and has the largest concentration of faculties in Helsinki.
The University of Helsinki main building forms the heart of the City Centre Campus and its academic atmosphere offers an excellent setting for the 21st Annual EAERE Conference.
The conference will cover all topics of environmental and resource economics. Paper submission is open from November 10, 2014 until January 15, 2015.
We look forward to welcoming you to Helsinki.
